Essay Writing: giving an opinion

Last week we worked on essay writing. We read an essay on the death penalty and another one on fur trade. We discussed their differences of organization, the importance of balance and the use of appropriate language. We said that it is not necessary to be an expert on the topics but to have a few points to support arguments, for and against our own views. We can list  three arguments for and  three arguments against the topic we want to discuss. Then, we just sit down and write. Here is a diagram that can help you organize your ideas.
